Parcel Data Can make all the difference
fingertips along with your distribution system map incorporated? Time
was, everyone knew everybody and who owned what. Subdivided or leased
property, along with a younger workforce, may lead to questions of
ownership of property. Is the person giving permission for the
installation of facilities the owner, or is it just someone who has the
placed leased or rented? Having parcel data incorporated with your
system can give you a multitude of options that can lead to cost
savings and possibly avoid legal ramifications.

Lidar and Vegetation Management
In 2003 around 50 million people in North America and
without power when a tree fell on a transmission line knocking out several
circuits. In order to prevent another
massive blackout the National Electric Reliability Council (NERC) established
standards (FAC-003-01) in order to prevent future cascading blackouts. According to NERC their goal is to, “have not
one, but consecutive quarters with no vegetation management violations and
vegetation-related transmission outages.” The number of outages caused from grow-ins was reduced from 11 to 5 in
the third quarter from 2007 to 2008, and overall there was a reduction from 16
outages to 11 outages from grow-ins. One
active method that the electric industry is using to patrol their lines is
Lidar (Light Detection and Ranging). By
using an airborne Lidar system electric utilities can monitor their lines for
potentially dangerous vegetation and ensure their compliance with NERC’s
FAC-003-01. Lidar uses a laser to gather
data points that can be processed using computer programs. The data points are labeled by software using
algorithms. Electric Utilities can view
the data to find any potential threats to their assets. Since trees and other vegetation will
continue to grow and encroach upon power line right of ways power companies
must have a vegetation management system in place.

Parcel Data - Nationwide Parcel Data
Parcel data lies at the core of many applications and analysis. Parcel data allows property characteristics to be mapped and analyzed across an area of interest. OGI's parcel data displays a wealth of information that is associated with properties including valuations, ownership, service areas, environmental factors, and more. Parcel data also enables sophisticated spatial analysis such as proximity, overlay and buffer zone operations. Numerous industries use parcel data in their daily operations, and many are realizing new ways to enhance their capabilities, provide additional services and reduce operating costs.
Both public and private industries find that incorporating parcel data into their daily operations and processes result in enhanced capabilities, additional services and reduced operating costs.
Some of the industries that have found parcel data to be an invaluable resource in their daily operations are as follows:
Financial Services
> Loan Processing
> Tax Assignment and Determination
Insurance
> Underwriting and Claims Management
> Flood Certification
> Risk Assessment
Retail, Restaurant and Real Estate
> Property Information
> Service Territories
> Online Mapping Using Aerial Imagery
Utilities/Telecommunications
> Asset Management
> Right-of-Way Identification
> Call-Before-You-Dig Applications and Automated Meter Reading Systems
Government
> Law Enforcement
> Homeland Security
Visit OGI's parcel data coverage to see the parcel data available. To get more information about this data contact Canton Hall at 361-904-0071 or by e-Mail.

NAPE Expo 2010 - A Great Success!
After two days of greeting and meeting thousands of people and demonstrating the GIS products, services and data that OGI offers, I can honestly say that NAPE was a great success for OGI. The response to our GIS maps and GIS data was very positive. Most people were amazed at the capabilities of our online GIS mapping system, OGI FastMap, and were equally impressed at the amount of surface ownership data we have. OGI now offers nationwide parcel data and in Texas has over 130 counties with parcel coverage and fully attributed with tax rolls. We also have 110 counties with courthouse records online. Yes, we are doing things with parcel data that no one else is doing, compiling mass quantities of parcels, parcel data, and courthouse records and making it all available to purchase and or putting it on a custom online, browser-based map.
We were asked many times, "did we have seismic data or some other data on our maps." My answer every time was that if we didn't have it and you need it on a map, we could get it or you could supply it and we could then put it on a custom map online for you. Our data-rich OGI FastMap Loaded Plus contains an amazing amount of data including surface ownership, wells & pipeline, roads, railways, flood plains, abstracts and surveys, city limits, water bodies, parks, wildlife refuges, .5m aerial imagery, gulf of Mexico offshore data, drilling units boundaries, digital elevation models and traffic counts. The best response we received from visitors to our booth was regarding the price. Everyone was surprised at how affordable our online map subscriptions are. Just $49.99 for FastMap Loaded and $149.99 for FastMap Loaded Plus. I could see "the wheels turning" on how much money they could save with such a powerful and easy-to-use online map. Welcome to the OGI era of GIS mapping and GIS data.

ogiGRID offers infrared thermal imaging services
When it comes to power distribution, there’s a lot that
can’t be seen with the naked eye. Infrared
thermal imaging is a great tool that can be used to help reduce the costs of
maintenance on equipment. Corrosion,
overloading, and arcing can create excess heat and stress to your equipment and
cause it to exceed its safe operating temperature. Infrared thermal imaging allows you to see
the problem and address it before an outage occurs. ogiGRID offers infrared thermal imaging
services to meet your needs.
When was the last time you took a deeper look at your
equipment?
Most failure points that cause outages come from faulty
connections. Preventive maintenance will
save you money compared to reactive maintenance. Infrared thermal imaging can help you
identify a bad connection on critical equipment. A faulty switch at a substation can lead to
an entire circuit going down affecting a multitude of customers and increasing
your system average interruption duration.
