Aerial Imagery in many forms is advantageous for many organizations and industries. Some of aerial photography’s uses are: checking a right-of-way, scouting a potential well site, property valuation analysis, emergency response, planning and development, etc. Regardless of uses, Orthophotography and Oblique Imagery are two types of aerial imagery used today and following is a brief description differentiating them. An orthophoto or orthophotograph (orthagonal) is an aerial photograph, taken looking straight down, geometrically corrected ("orthorectified") such that the scale is uniform and they can be used as a map. The photo has the same lack of distortion as a map. Unlike an uncorrected aerial photograph, an orthophotograph can be used to measure true distances, because it is an accurate representation of the earth's surface, having been adjusted for topographic relief, lens distortion, and camera tilt.
Oblique Imagery is aerial photography that is captured at approximately 45 degree angle with the ground. The angle which is inherent to oblique imagery allows viewers to see and measure not only the top of objects but the sides as well. Oblique Imagery more closely resembles how people normally view their landscape compared to traditional orthagonal (straight down) imagery. The oblique photographs show buildings, infrastructure, and land from all sides.Aerial Photography at a Glance: OGI's collection technology supports both types of imagery with one mission. GEOVISTA® camera systems for light aircraft contain five digital cameras pointing forward, back, right, left and down. Imagery from the nadir camera can be ortho-rectified to create a seamless result meeting 1” – 50’ map accuracy with 4” pixels. In a single flight, enough imagery is captured to offer 360° viewing of 12 to 24 different oblique views of every location with a pixel resolution of 3” to 6” providing a tremendous amount of visual detail.**Ref: OGI's image partner, GEOSPAN.com
By flying the area, whether it is for a potential location, appraisal, or inspection of facilities, this procedure will eliminate “boots on the ground” in most all applications. Think of the savings and not to mention that the safety liabilities will be all gone using this method. No more vehicle maintenance, terrain hazards of people on foot, etc. Scouting locations can be completed from a birds eye view, accurately and efficiently. Does your staff know what is on the other side of that entry gate, locked behind miles of game fence? Could be a cabin, could be a mansion. We can fly your county and give you that information. Information concerning square footage of structures can be delivered quickly and accurately. OGI is proud to offer aerial photography services. OGI’s customer base is mostly comprised of state and local governments, which use images of cities and or counties for planning and development, emergency response and property assessment, but the service can easily extend to insurance, real estate, civil engineering, and utilities, amongst many other industries.
