OGI began work on a complete GIS and oblique imagery package for Jim Wells county after contracts were finalized over the holidays in December. OGI will apply their team of GIS and data specialists to electronically map Jim Wells county. Starting with historical cartography and geo-rectified satellite imagery, OGI with use specializes software to produce an online map of the county with all relavent property tax attributes available for search and retrieval.
Oblique Imagery
In addition, Jim Wells and Aransas counties have contracted with OGI to fly their counties and have created a comprehensive oblique image library of their respective counties. The high resolution, 4-view oblique imagery will enable the CADs from Jim Wells and Aransas counties to better appraise the properties more accurately and easily.

The process was extensive and involved going from some electronic drawings, legacy maps and legal descriptions to data conversion, scanning paper images to digital and to the deed research. Then, all digital drawings were geo-referenced (aligned) to aerial images and parcel lines drawn to create shape files then attached to the appraisal tax roll.
OGI then used all of this newly created GIS data to design, produce and host their online county map. This extremely accurate and up-to-date digital map is available on the web and freely accessible around the clock. The new Jones County FastMap is loaded with custom GIS layers like: roads, parcel lines, abstracts, water bodies, rail roads, 10m DEMs(topo lines), NexRad, school districts and aerials are available to the public over the Internet to explore.
